Before you do, allow us to give you a few tips that can help make the packing, loading, and unloading processes go smoothly.
- Try to use boxes that are the same size and shape so that they can stack easily.
- Be sure to fill boxes to the top. You may need to use packing paper to accomplish this, but it is important, since boxes that aren’t full can be crushed under the weight of other boxes or items.
- Avoid packing items in plastic bags. Though it may save you a few dollars, they can trap moisture inside, which can damage items.
- If storing mirrors or other glass items, use masking tape in a criss-cross pattern across the glass part to keep it from shattering if broken. Store mirrors and frames vertically, and be sure they are well wrapped.
- Wipe down metal items with machine oil or another type of rust preventative.
- Label boxes clearly, and consider writing a short inventory of the items inside on the outside of the box to make it easier when unpacking your items.
